The Monkey Theory: Conquer Your Mental Chatter is about achieving focus, determination and discipline by controlling the many ‘monkeys’ who dominate, attack and hijack logical thinking.

Sfurti Sahare is a motivational speaker and author of the best-selling book Think and Win Like Dhoni.

The Monkey Theory Book Review

This short 123-page book examines well-known weaknesses in mental processes like procrastination, fear, and inability to focus. It recommends techniques for living in the present, being disciplined to overcome.

The author uses simple examples and easy-to-remember phrases (Drunk Monkey, Candle of Hope, Eagle of Wisdom) to make the topic accessible to her audience – teenage/younger with limited exposure to self-help and philosophy books. The book is also value for money.

I found it a tad repetitive but others may like the conversational style. Folks with previous exposure to self-help books may not enjoy this book. Those living a disciplined life and with clarity of vision may skip.

The Monkey Theory Quotes by Sfurti Sahare

What happens generally is that what your mind tells you in your free time, defines your complete story

When you couldn’t make up your mind and quickly moved from being angry to being sad, from dull to super-excited and so on and never figured out why this was happening and why you were behaving the way you behaved … just like a drunk person, that was the Drunk Monkey at work!

‘Mental noise’ is the constant chatter of the mind that never stops.

How many of us decide to do something and then don’t do it? This leads to precipitation of guilt. This thick layer of guilt leads to lack of self-belief.

My personal favourite – I have used this technique (before the book was published) to good effect.

Commit to things such that you cannot back out. Every human being loves to relax. But it’s all about how we can handle the internal battle between the urge to work and the urge to just remain in the comfort zone.
