Why is Sleep Health Important?
Humans spend one-third of their life sleeping. For the amount of time spent sleeping out understanding of the science of sleep is extremely poor.
Sleep is the daily maintenance job that is necessary for us to remain healthy, wealthy and full of life.
It feels refreshing after a good night’s sleep. It feels tiresome if you haven’t had enough sleep.
How to measure sleep health? The SATED Questionnaire is the answer.
SATED Questionnaire – A simple way to measure Sleep Health
SATED is a simple questionnaire developed by sleep researchers to determine the degree of your sleep fulfillment.
It is based on five simple questions (see below).
Each question with three possible responses that you can score (score in brackets) – Rarely/Never (0) , Sometimes (1) and Always (2).
Add up the scores.
Score of zero (0) indicates Poor Sleep Health and ten (10) indicates Good Sleep Health.
The questions are:
1. Satisfaction – Are you satisfied with your Sleep?
2. Alertness – Do you stay awake all day without dozing?
3. Timing – Are you asleep (or trying to sleep) between 2am – 4am?
4. Efficiency – Do you spend less than 30 minutes awake at night?
(This includes time it takes to fall asleep and awakenings from sleep.)
5. Duration – Do you sleep between 6 and 8 hours per day?
